Commodity marketer and distributor Gavilon Group announced Monday that COO Steven Zehr replaced Lewis “Lew” Batschelder as chief executive officer of the company. Batschelder, who recently retired after more than four decades in the grain industry, joined the company’s board of directors and moved to a new consulting role on April 1.
“It was a pleasure to work with, coach, and learn from my colleagues during my tenure as CEO of Gavilon,” said Batschelder in a company press release. “I am proud of everything we were able to accomplish and honored to remain a part of the organization moving forward. I have the utmost confidence in Steve and look forward to the growth and success that Gavilon can achieve under Steven’s leadership.”
The outgoing CEO came aboard Gavilon in 2016 as CEO.
Zehr joined the company in 2011 and was promoted to COO in 2017. In his 25 years of experience in agriculture, the new CEO has held positions in financial management, strategic planning, and commercial operations, including roles in Mexico, Brazil, U.S. and Germany.
“We have been incredibly lucky to have had Lew Batschelder as our CEO and I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue working with him in our new roles,” said Zehr in a statement. “Lew shaped the future for Gavilon and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue building on that success by remaining focused on meeting the needs of our producers and consumers of agricultural products across the globe.”
