Grain handling and marketing firm G3 Canada Limited plans to start construction on two new grain elevators in Alberta this summer to support the growth of grain production in the province, a company announcement said Wednesday.

“Central Alberta is one of the most important grain growing regions in Canada,” the company’s chief executive officer, Don Chapman, said in a statement. “We are excited to be able to provide farmers in the region a new choice to market their grain through modern facilities that will save them time and money.”

One elevator will be located near Irricana and another will be built in Stettler County. Once operational, each facility will have a 42,000 tn capacity and feature a railway loop track for a 150-car unit train. The Irricana site will be served by CN Rail and the Stettler County location will be on CP Rail.

G3 said that it plans to start construction this summer following the completion of regulatory approvals. The company is currently constructing four other grain elevators in Alberta and Saskatchewan and a new port terminal in North Vancouver, BC.

Construction of the new grain elevators in Stettler County and Irricana is slated for completion in 2020.
