Fire Destroys Wood Pellet Plant in Michigan

A wood pellet manufacturing facility in Lake Isabella, MI was declared a complete loss after a fire broke out at the plant early Friday, local news organizations reported.

Crews from six fire departments responded to the Isabella Pellet plant around 4:30 a.m., according to a report by news broadcaster WJRT, discovering a large volume of smoke and flames when they got to the scene.

Three workers who were present at the site when the fire broke out evacuated the site without injuries, coverage by CBS News affiliate WNEM said. Officials told the station that the blaze started in an area to the rear of the plant.

Isabella Pellet is a prodder of premium hardwood heating pellets, softwood heating pellets, and pine equine bedding pellets, according to the firm’s website. The company was established in 2010.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
