Skincare and makeup manufacturer The Estee Lauder Companies intends to construct a new $14.5 million engineering center located near the firm’s existing production site in Melville, NY, local news organizations reported.

Company officials told Newsday this Tuesday that a lease was recently signed by the company for the new facility after considering locations in several other states.

“The engineering innovation that will result from this investment will be infused across our global supply chain, helping us create trends and drive speed-to-market,” Gregory F. Polcer, executive vice president of global supply chain at Estee Lauder said in the newspaper’s report.

Estee Lauder plans to dedicate about $7 million toward renovations of the structure and invest about $7 million in new equipment, according to coverage by Long Island Business News (LIBN). The project is expected to create about 30 new positions when the new engineering center opens.

A statement from the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (Suffolk IDA) printed by LIBN said the new center will focus on developing and testing manufacturing processes.

Earlier this year, Estee Lauder announced plans to expand production of skin care and fragrance products at its Melville production facility by 50%.
