Conagra Brands Inc., formerly known as ConAgra Foods Inc., appointed Craig P. Omtvedt to its board of directors on Nov. 11, the Chicago-based food company said. Omtvedt will assume the role immediately.

“We are very pleased to welcome Craig to the Conagra Brands board,” Steve Goldstone, chairman of Conagra Brands, said in a statement. “Craig’s strong financial and investment community expertise, and his deep experience in both the consumer packaged goods and retail industries, makes him a valuable asset to the company and our shareholders.”

67-year-old Omtvedt previously served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of consumer products company Fortune Brands Inc. from 2000 to 2011 when he retired. Following his tenure at Fortune, Omtvedt worked as a consultant for Beam Inc. Omtvedt joined Fortune in 1989, previously working at Sears, Roebuck & Company and the Pillsbury Company in financial positions. Adding to his food-related experience, he also was director of The Hillshire Brands Company from 2012 to 2014.

“I’m honored to join the Conagra Brands board as it begins life as a branded pure-play consumer foods company. I look forward to working with my fellow directors and the management team on behalf of all Conagra Brands shareholders,” said Omtvedt in a press release.

Once Omtvedt assumes his role with Conara, the company’s board will total 10 members.
