Chemicals and specialty materials producer Celanese Corporation plans to expand production of thermoplastic co-polyesters (TPCs) at its Donegani production plant in Ferrara, Italy with the addition of a new polymerization line, the firm announced in a release Tuesday.

Part of the company’s global engineered materials business, TPCs produced at the site in Italy are sold under the Pibiflex and Riteflex brands. The company said its investment is in response to an uptick in customer demand.

“The company will continue to partner with its customers to deliver innovative solutions to meet ever-increasing consumer and industrial needs and respond to the changing complexity in high-performance polymers,” Celanese said in the release.

Celanese started up a new solid-state polymerization unit at the Donegani plant in September 2018. Completion of the new polymerization line is expected within the coming 15 to 18 months.

Financial details of the investment were not included in the firm’s release.
