German chemicals firm BASF plans to build a new production plant at its existing automotive refinish coatings site in Jiangmen, China, a company announcement said Thursday.
“Guangdong Province is of strategic importance to BASF in Greater China,” Zheng Daqing, senior vice president, business and market development at BASF Greater China, said in a statement. “The investment in Jiangmen will double the production capacity of the site. Located in the fast-growing rea of the Pearl River Delta, the new facility will enable us to be even closer to our customers, further supporting the automotive industry.”
BASF Coatings (Guangdong) Co. Ltd., purchased from a family business in 2016, is the company’s first production site for automotive refinish coatings in Asia. A number of investments have been made over the last three years to improve product quality, research and development capabilities, environmental impact, and the health and safety of workers.
“We have upgraded the production and environmental protection facilities to meet BASF’s world-class standards. At the same time, we have enhanced the skillsets of our employees, with one focus being on environment, health and safety practices,” said Patrick Zhao, senior vice president, BASF Coatings Solutions Asia Pacific, said in the release. “This is how we have built a professional, competitive team and fostered a safe and sustainable corporate culture.”
The new automotive refinish coatings facility is expected to start production in the first half of 2022.
