The Bühler Group held a ceremony on July 7 to mark the opening of its expanded and modernized Bakery Innovation Center (BIC) in Uzwil, Switzerland to drive innovations in the baked goods industry, the Swiss firm announced via press release.

The company cited trends like growing demand for deep-frozen bakery foods and clean label goods and digitization efforts within the industry as drivers for investing in the expansion of the research facility.

Offering new technologies and automation systems, the 1000-sq-m modular building enables Bühler to test plant and production concepts for a variety of applications. In addition, the BIC provides evaluations of blending qualities, sponge dough and hydration tests, proportioning and weighting trials, a raw materials quality service, and automation of complete processing systems.

Bühler also plans to offer training at the Uzwil site for baking industry professionals.

“With the Bakery Innovation Center, our employees can be optimally trained on new technologies,” said Hubert Scheider of Resch & Frisch Production GmbH in the Bühler release.
