Pharmaceutical ingredients manufacturer Albemarle Fine Chemistry Services announced Tuesday that the cmpany will expand its production capabilities for regulatory starting materials (RSMs) with a new operations building under construction at its Tyrone, PA facility.

Work on the site started 15 months ago. Albemarle expects construction to reach completion in the next two weeks.

“We continue to invest in our sites to provide innovative, state-of-the-art solutions to our customers,” Albemarle Fine Chemistry Services President Scott Martin said in a company press release. “The new building incorporates the latest safety features, as well as improved integration of our QC lab and operations staffs.”

The new, 8900-sq-ft structure will contain a 400-ft2 control room and data center and a 2000-ft2 quality control laboratory. A number of pieces of existing equipment will be integrated into the new space, according to Albemarle, including inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for metal impurity analysis.

Moving quality control operations to the new operations building will freeing 1500 sq ft of space in the firm’s existing facility. A new kilo lab under construction will help the firm to scale up production of early-stage RSMs.

Albemarle Fine Chemistry Services is a division of Albemarle Corporation, a manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals.
