Archer Daniels Midland is widening its animal nutrition footprint in China with the planned construction of a new feed premix plant in Xiangtan, China and the expansion of aquaculture feed production lines at an existing site in Nanjing, the Chicago-based company announced Monday.

“One of the main pillars of our strategy to increase shareholder value is enhancing our footprint in areas of growing demand,” said ADM Animal Nutrition’s president Brent Fenton in a statement. “Population growth and higher disposable incomes are continuing to support increased animal protein – and thus animal feed – demand in China.”

The plans for the premix production site in Xiangtan will be able to produce 120,000 mt of premix, concentrate, animal-complete, and fish-complete feeds per year, and is ideally located in a location where it can serve three provinces in central China including Hunan, Hubei, and Guangxi.

“Our new Xiangtan feed-premix facility – our fifth animal feed plant in the country – will position us to continue meeting this increased demand in the central part of the country,” said Fenton.

Aquaculture lines at ADM’s Nanjing plant will contribute 50,000 mt of extruded and pelleted feeds over the six0month aquaculture season, which takes place from April to September.

“The addition of four aquaculture feed lines at our Nanjing plant will offer us entry into the growing Chinese high value specialty aquafeed market,” Fenton explained.

Another ADM plant is under construction in Zhangzhou with completion expected in summer 2017.
