36 firefighters responded to a large fire at the AE Concrete production plant in Surrey, BC early Saturday, local news organizations reported. The blaze reportedly destroyed the 20,000-sq-ft facility.

Neighbors called the Surrey Fire Service when they heard loud noises at the site around 4 a.m. and fire crews were dispatched to the plant, coverage by GlobalNews.ca said. Surrey Fire Assistant Chief Steve Serbic told the news website that some propane tanks may have exploded during the incident, but firefighters managed to prevent flames from reaching the facility’s largest propane tanks.

Firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from several structures at the facility, including a mixing silo and the main building, said an account by Surrey Now-Leader, citing details from Black Press Media.

Three dozen firefighters worked for several hours to douse the flames, officials told CBC News. No injuries were reported.

AE Concrete manufactures precast concrete underground utility structures, concrete communication vaults, chambers, streetlight bases, headwalls, oil interceptors and other concrete products, according to informationon its website.
