Cement and building materials supplier CEMEX USA started operations at is new aggregates processing plant in Brierfield, AL in June, expanding its ability to support the needs of the state’s construction industry, the company announced in release this month.

The $6 million RM USA Aggregates plant is expected to process some 600,000 tn/yr of asphalt stone, concrete stone, and base for customers in the state and the CEMEX Ready Mix USA facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabaster, and Vance.

“CEMEX and Ready Mix USA are proud to expand our services in Alabama to help meet the state’s ever-growing need for aggregates,” Marc Tyson, regional president, MidSouth region for CEMEX USA, said in a statement. “The Brierfield Plant gives us a new opportunity to support our existing customers and earn the business of new ones by leveraging the wealth of experience of our team and providing them materials sourced from all parts of CEMEX’s supply chain.”

Opening the site concludes CEMEX’s “more than 10-year hiatus on aggregates production” in Alabama, the release stated. The business operates about 50 aggregate quarries in the US.
