Firefighters and HAZMAT personnel responded to a report of a sulfuric acid leak and explosion on May 1 at the Henkel AG & Co. chemical plant in St. Louis, MO, according to the St. Louis Fire Department.

“During a process, the unintentional introduction of moisture created a violent chemical reaction/explosion,” St. Louis Fire Department tweeted. “The involved area has been properly ventilated.”

Workers were evacuated from the plant during the incident. Fire officials reported no injuries.

Henkel’s plant in St. Louis produces surfactant used in soap, St. Louis Fire said.
