NDC Infrared Engineering Appoints Dr. Danut Dragoi Senior Scientist

November 19, 2008
NDC Infrared Engineering, a global supplier of on-line measurement and control systems, has announced the appointment of Dr. Danut Dragoi as senior scientist.

Dr. Dragoi will help lead the effort in the area of sensors with a focus on new technologies for improving precision and accuracy. His expertise in physics, material science, and characterization will play a key role in meeting today’s application challenges and maintaining NDC’s leadership position.

“Danut is a valuable addition to our team and brings a unique understanding of material science and sensor technology,” said Ahmad Shishegar, systems development manager. “His in-depth knowledge of both metrology and material science will help keep NDC measurement technology at the forefront.”

Prior to joining NDC, Dr. Dragoi was a professor at California Institute of Technology teaching Material Science. He was also a Post Doctoral Fellow at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena working on the Life on Mars project. Dr. Dragoi earned a PhD in Material Science.

NDC Infrared Engineering offers an extensive range of non-contact sensors and systems for measurement of moisture, fat, protein, and continuous web processes variables such as coat weight and film thickness.

The group's range of complementary measurement technologies for the web industry includes infrared absorption, beta transmission, gamma backscatter, X-ray fluorescence and transmission, laser caliper, and UV absorption. Applications include blown film, cast film, paper, foil and film converting, pulp and paper, nonwovens, rubber and plastics sheet materials, tire production, and plastic pipe manufacture. Products range from hand-held, portable devices for QA checks, to complete on-line system solutions for continuous precision measurement and process control.
