Announcing the publication of the 2007-2008 ICCA Annual Review, ICCA president Robert L. Wood, chairman and CEO of Chemtura, said, “The global chemical industry and its seven million employees are excited to be at the cutting edge of efforts to build a sustainable future for our customers, our companies, and people everywhere.
“The new Annual Review highlights the crucial role of chemistry in sustaining and improving health, safety, and the environment. From clean water projects in developing nations, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions with innovative energy-efficient building and transportation materials, the global business of chemistry makes the world healthier, safer, more productive, and more sustainable every day.”
Through its Responsible Care and Global Product Strategy initiatives, ICCA members are fulfilling their commitment to the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) by enhancing product stewardship and the safe management of chemicals. In fact, Russia became the 53rd Responsible Care nation last year. ICCA also is committed to developing the best possible science to help in the understanding of the impact of its products. “Taken together, ICCA’s programs demonstrate the industry’s ability to work effectively with value chain partners and communicate transparently with stakeholders,” said Wood.
Wood also said the ICCA looks forward to sharing its progress report on product stewardship, chemicals management, and sustainable development at the second International Conference on Chemicals Management in May 2009.
