Ciba Expert Services is offering a one-day seminar on June 26 covering “Static Electricity & Dust Explosion Hazards.” The seminar will take place at the Sheraton Suites Philadelphia Airport Hotel in Philadelphia.
Combustible dust issues can be very costly to companies. In spite of modern technology and wider understanding of combustion hazards, accidents and incidents continue to happen at an unacceptable frequency within the chemical process industry. As recently as February 2008, the danger that combustible dust poses became very real for workers at a sugary refinery in southeast Georgia and their families.
In 2007, OSHA introduced a new National Emphasis Program (NEP) aimed at preparing companies to manage the risks associated with combustible dust. Ciba Expert Services, a business unit of Ciba Corp. with over 50 years of experience manufacturing combustible materials, is helping clients meet these new guidelines and operate more safely by advocating a proactive approach.
This seminar is another in Ciba Expert Services’ on-going series of seminars aimed at chemists, chemical engineers, EHS Managers, and safety specialists who wish to control and understand the risks of dust explosion. In order to do this successfully, it is necessary to plan, organize, and control the essential management systems that lead to a safe yet economically viable operation. This seminar will concentrate on compliance techniques and consensus engineering standards using effective industrial-based management systems that focus on specific unit operations (drying, milling, pneumatic transport, dust collection, filling/emptying FIBCs, etc.). An example of how to design intrinsically safe processes will be demonstrated.
