A man died Saturday afternoon Hardwood flooring production facility in Jackson City, TN after a silo collapsed, various local news organizations reported.
The worker was cleaning inside the silo at the Q.E.P. Co. Inc. plant when about 30 ft of saw dust fell onto him. Rescue crews were called to the scene at about 2:30 p.m., Jackson City Police and Washington County Emergency Management Agency Director Nes Levotch told the Jackson City Press.
“We had no verbal response from him, no visual response, so with the amount of saw dust that was in there, it was pretty early on that we felt it would be a recovery effort,” Levotch said in a report by WKRN, an ABC News affiliate in Nashville, TN.
Officials have not identified the victim. Investigations into the cause of the incident were opened by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA).
Q.E.P. offers a range of flooring products and services including adhesives, hardwood flooring, and surface protection solutions.
