Calcium carbonate products manufacturer Panamint Valley Limestone Inc. (PVL) announced plans on Monday to open a new $45 million lime processing plant in Trona, CA that will position the company as the sole producer of lime in the state of California.

Located near several industrial facilities on a brownfield site, the plant will process limestone rock into quick lime and hydrated lime products for industrial processes, soil conditioning, cement, and other end uses. PVL said the Trona location has a planned capacity of 400 tn/day.

To lower the site’s impacts on the environment, PVL plans to install emissions control equipment and will design the site to have no liquid or solid waste streams.

About 30 to 40 jobs will be created as a result of the project, the company said. Production in scheduled to begin at the plant in early 2021.
