Man Dies in Waste Grinder at Ohio Meat Processing Plant

A worker died on Saturday evening at the Fresh Mark Inc. meat processing plant in Canton, OH after becoming caught in piece of waste grinding machinery.

“Our primary concern rests with the wellbeing of this employee’s family, as well as the safety and wellbeing of all our employees in the Canton and other Fresh Mark facilities. We are working with authorities to determine the facts regarding this incident,” the company said in a statement published by the Columbus Dispatch.

The incident occurred at about 5 P.M. The man was pronounced dead on scene.

The victim was identified as 62-year-old Samuel Martinez of Canton, originally a native of Guatemala, by the Stark County Coroner, Dr. Anthony Bertin, the Dispatch reported. Martinez became trapped in the equipment after he stepped into a chute

Fresh Mark is a producer of bacon, hot dogs, hams and other meat products.

Another man died at the Canton plant in 2011 from an electrocution, various media organizations reported.
