A BASF aroma production plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany remains shut down after an Oct. 31 fire, leading the company to declare a Force Majeure over its Citral- and Isoorenol-based aroma ingredients, the German firm announced in a press release Friday.

In addition to closing the aroma plant, BASF said its Vitamin A and E plants are also closed for routine maintenance and will not be reopened until its production of Citral and intermediates for the vitamins resume.

Because cleaning, repairing, inspecting and restarting the Citral facility will take place over the next several weeks, the company stated, its supply of Vitamin A and E products will be impacted, along with several Carotenoid products.

BASF said it is evaluating “the impact of the Force Majeure situation as well as the effects for customers.”
