A dust explosion in a storage silo at the Koipe edible oils processing plant in Andujar, Spain last Thursday sent debris through the air and injured three workers at the site, Spanish news organizations reported.
The injured suffered smoke inhalation, shock, and other minor injuries, Euro Weekly News, an English-language news organization in Spain, reported. The silo contained sunflower seeds at the time of the incident.
Firefighters were able to put down the fire within two hours, Euro Weekly News said, and a crane was used to remove some parts of the silo to prevent them from collapsing.
A preliminary investigation by police found that combustible dust caused the incident, Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia said.
Owned by Spanish food group Deoleo, the Koipe brand of edible oils was established in 1954 in the Basque region, according to Deoleo’s website.
