Global wafer, cookie, and confectionery production equipment maker The Haas Group was recently acquired by the Bühler Group, expanding the Swiss technology firm’s offerings in its Consumer Foods product portfolio.
“We are opening a new chapter in the Consumer Food market, and we feel confirmed by the broad approval that we have received from many customers and employees,” said Bühler’s chief executive officer, Stefan Scheiber, in a statement.
Closing the first week of January after approval by antitrust authorities, terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Vienna, Austria-based Haas generates sales of about €300 million annually and employs some 1750 workers across the world. The firm’s production systems are used to manufacture ice cream cones, cakes, bakery products, cookies, and wafers.
The transaction represents the Swiss company’s first foray into wafer and cookie production market.
“Though we also offer food processing technologies and often have the same customers, our products and services do not overlap in any way – this means, we complement each other ideally,” said Scheiber.
Bühler said its network of more than 100 service stations will become accessible to Haas customers following the purchase, and the firm’s operations will be integrated into the Swiss form’s innovation management organization and network.
“The powerful presence of Bühler in Asia is another factor that enables the two combined companies to seize new opportunities in this major growth market for wafer and cookie products,” Germar Wacker, head of the Haas business within the Bühler Group, said in the release.
