Process Safety Roundtable Series Concludes

June 25, 2014

ChemStewards, the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) flagship environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) program, recently concluded its successful 2014 Regional Roundtable series. The Roundtables are an opportunity for EHS&S professionals in the chemical industry to learn more about trends and methodologies in chemical risk management — with a focus on preventing loss of containment incidents.

Jerry Jones, a leading EHS&S expert and consultant with the AIChE Center for Chemical Process Safety, led the five Regional Roundtable meetings. The meetings, which were full-day workshops, provided attendees with information and instructional aids that would help them establish or further improve a risk-based safety culture at their facility.

“Safety is paramount in the chemical industry,” said Dr. J. Holland Jordan, managing director of ChemStewards. “Our Regional Roundtable series serves as an extension of the ChemStewards mantra of ‘continuous improvement,’ where our members and interested parties can join together and work to help optimize their facilities’ performance, save money and enhance their roles as good corporate citizens. We would like to thank Jerry Jones for the outstanding job he did in presenting this crucial information to our members and others in the chemical industry.”

To SOCMA and the ChemStewards team, the most important part of the Roundtables is how they benefit those who attend. “The process safety training at the Regional Roundtable was outstanding,” said Bryan Shaffer, a production manager at McGean. “Mr. Jones presented a program that not only is comprehensive, it is very practical. When implemented, I would expect it to take your process safety program to the next level.”

Additional sponsors for the series included AIG (ChemStewards’ Member Select Insurance Provider) and The Wercs (ChemStewards’ Official Regulatory Partner).

Each Roundtable also featured a first look into ChemSteward’s Optimization Program, which will be fully rolled out later in the year.

SOCMA is the only U.S.-based trade association dedicated solely to the batch, custom and specialty chemical industry.
