Corn Silo Catches Fire

September 8, 2014

Firefighters from six different fire departments battled a corn silo fire for more than eight hours August 29-30 in Lawrence County, AL.

About 25,000 bushels of corn were in the silo. Holes were cut in the sides of the silo and so the burned grain could be pulled out. Some corn was pulled from the top of the silo and taken by trucks to a storage area. It was not known how much grain was destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters used more than 24,000 gallons of water to battle the flames.
