The Steel-It stainless-steel epoxy system creates an abrasion-resistant conveying surface for the bulk processing of nonfood materials. The system consists of an epoxy primer and a finish coating that features a Type 316L stainless-steel leafing pigment. This pigment creates a durable corrosion-, salt-, and chip-resistant metallic barrier. Providing greater wear resistance on hoppers, chutes, and other surfaces than conventional paint, the system is available in gallon and quart kits and can be applied by roller, brush, or spray gun. Creating a smooth, satin gray finish that can last up to 10 years, depending on the application and environment, the system exhibits 2H pencil hardness and is capable of withstanding a continuous 2000-hr salt spray test. It is USDA-approved for use where incidental food contact may occur.

Centrifugal Impact Mill
The 24-in. sanitary stainless steel Model CIM-24-SS Centrifugal Impact Mill provides coarse to fine grinding (325 mesh) of friable materials into controlled particle sizes, as well as lump breaking and conditioning of fibrous materials. High-speed rotation of the inner disc creates centrifugal force that accelerates bulk material entering the central inlet of the opposing stationary disc. As material travels from the center to the periphery of the discs at high speed, it passes through five intermeshing rows of rotating and stationary pins, with the desired tight particle size distribution obtained by controlling the rotor speed. Setting the infinitely variable rotor speed between several hundred and 5400 rpm provides the flexibility to use the machine for coarse grinding and de-agglomerating, as well as for fine grinding. Also called a Pin Mill, the unit handles wet or dry materials, to produce tight particle size distribution at any given rotor speed setting, and to sanitize rapidly.

Flexible Screw Weigh Batching System
This weigh batching system designed for mezzanines and other low headroom areas utilizes low profile flexible screw conveyors configured with motor drives at the inlet end of the conveyor, reducing height and width requirements at the discharge end. The automated system is comprised of eight low profile conveyors fed by roof-mounted storage vessels, with each group of four conveyors feeding either of two gain-in-weight hoppers that gravity discharge through the mezzanine floor to a ribbon blender at ground level. A system controller starts and stops each conveyor to weigh ingredients in sequence, first at high feed rate for rapid filling, then at dribble feed rate, stopping material flow once the accurate batch weight has been gained by the hopper.

The Slurry Sampler autosampler for the Partica LA-950 Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer fully automates particle size measurement for improved reproducibility, system availability, and productivity. Sample mixing can be achieved either with a mechanical stirrer or magnetic stir plate. The sampling probe is cleaned in an integrated wash station to prevent sample cross-contamination. Sample containers can be configured depending on customer requirements with up to 60 sample positions. The Scheduler software makes routine operation as simple as filling in a spreadsheet. A Condition and Method file is selected from a list, the sample information, position and the file name are entered, and one button starts the analysis. The resulting data is processed automatically for streamlined, efficient measuring. High priority samples can be inserted into the sequence at any time and the instrument can be operated in a manual mode without any hardware changes.

Once a container is properly loaded, it is staged through the automated in-feed system. The operator removes the cover, unties the liner, and pulls it taut over the container edges. After the de-lidding process is complete, the operator will press a Confirm button and the container will proceed into the automated discharge sequence. The container then moves into the equipment on the powered conveyor in-feed system, is automatically positioned in the discharger, and is sealed against the custom discharge hood and rotated 180° to the final discharge position. Material is discharged into the agitator hopper and from the hopper into the existing vacuum conveyor inlet using a horizontal feed conveyor. Once the system determines the container has completely emptied, the system lowers the empty container back to the loading position and discharges it onto the powered out-feed conveyor section. The out-feed conveyor system will have space for 10 pallets of empty boxes.

The Bulkflow heat exchanger heats or cools powders and bulk solids and combines the two sciences of indirect heat transfer and mass flow of bulk solids. The powder or bulk solids move slowly by gravity between vertical heat transfer surfaces formed by welding plates containing the heat transfer fluid, typically water in the case of a cooler. A mass-flow discharge device controls the product flow rate. Equipment is contained in a totally sealed unit to eliminate any concern for dirt or contamination. The system does not require large volumes of air to operate, letting gravity do the work to reduce power consumption. A new high-temperature model uses horizontal water-cooled tubes, which minimizes thermal stresses and accommodates thermal expansion. The system cools bulk solids with temperatures up to 1000ºC. In this model, high-temperature solids flow slowly by gravity over the cooling tubes while indirectly being cooled. The benefit of the tube design compared to the plate design is that the geometry of the tube is uniform with even temperature distribution throughout the tube wall to avoid hot spots and local stresses.

Tilt-Tray and Cross-Belt Sorters
The LS-4000E tilt-tray sorter and the LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter have a common platform that enhances system flexibility and a state-of-the-art energy system that reduces operating costs. Equipped with an energy-efficient linear synchronous motor (LSM), the sorters reduce the overall product life cycle cost substantially without sacrificing speed, capacity, and reliability. The high-speed LSM eliminates contact between moving parts, resulting in low wear and tear and low noise levels in the range of normal conversation—i.e., a maximum of 62 dBa. The sorters’ small, modular design features a low sorter section height and up to 20 ft between supports, enabling easy integration into existing facilities. The space-saving design provides extra room above the sorter and on the floor.

Particle Size/Shape Analyzer Software Enhancement
A new classification feature in the software of the Morphologi G2 high-sensitivity particle size and shape analyzer allows the rapid identification and statistical assessment of different particle populations within a single sample. Particles can now be classified on the basis of size or shape, or a combination of both factors. The software feature is an integral part of any new purchase and is available as an upgrade to existing Morphologi G2 customers at no cost. Ideal for the identification of agglomerates and foreign particles, the classification feature enables users to direct their statistical shape and size analysis solely on those particles of interest within a sample. The ability to classify according to size and shape extends the value of this function to applications with shape sensitivity.
