The Source for Dry Processing and Bulk Handling Technology

Show Review

February 21, 2007

The 78th annual Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) technical conference and trade show will be held February 24–27 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, TX. The program features a slate of educational sessions with special emphasis on safety, security, regulatory compliance, and quality preservation. The range of issues is designed to meet the core concerns of industry professionals who want to keep abreast of all facets of the industry. For more information on GEAPS, go to www.geaps.com/exchange2007/ms/index.html.
Turbine Vibrator
The Whirlwind turbine vibrator provides powerful vibratory force to move bulk solids. The urethane-encapsulated turbine in the high-frequency vibrator produces more power with less noise than comparable pneumatic turbine vibrators. With output of more than 10,000 force pounds (45 kN), it provides enough force to improve the flow of stubborn materials. Containing a built-in handle, the unit provides one-worker portability for use in railcar unloading or applications on several storage vessels in one plant.

Grain Level Measurement
Monitoring grain levels in elevators, processing plants, and even ethanol production facilities is possible using Monitor’s point and continuous-level measurement line of technologies and products. The company offers a complete line of level control and measurement products, including guided-wave radar and smart cable-based radio-frequency capacitors, as well as rotary paddle, tilt, vibratory, and diaphragm-type technologies. Monitor will display the Flexar guided-wave radar continuous-level sensor and the SiloTrack inventory management system, which interfaces with multiple continuous-level sensor technologies and provides a graphical interface for local and remote users via LAN, WAN/Internet, and dial-up connections.

Material-Handling Systems
InterSystems manufactures products and systems that convey, elevate, sample, and bulk weigh products in thematerial-handling and processing industries. The company also provides screeners, probes, and dust-suppression systems. Rugged and flexible conveying systems are available from 45 to 45,000 bushels/hr in a horizontal configuration. The unit can be configured for applications with up to 55° inclines. Options include reversible units, bend sections, divided-flow inlets, intermediate discharge gates, and a wide variety of housings and ARS liners.

Horizontal Conveyor
Like a conventional vibratory conveyor, the Slipstick horizontal-motion conveyor has a rigid-pan design that moves bulk material by applying periodic motion to the product. The unit uses a unique slow-forward, quick-return conveying motion. Its low-impact motion preserves product integrity and gently moves many hard-to-handle materials without degradation, agglomeration, dusting, buildup, and segregation. Large and bulky materials can be effectively conveyed because the horizontal motion works with the inertia of the material in the conveyor pan to ensure a consistent conveying motion throughout the length, width, and depth of the product bed. Capable of operating at multiple speeds and in reverse, the Slipstick has no external moving parts, ensuring operator safety.
